THREE IS A TREND

Picnicking under a blazing Minna sun, laughter for days and three summer babes.

In between Uni, work, answering emails and messages, staying abreast on social media and trying to keep up with my blogging schedule, it is safe to say that I have very little hours in a day to spare. But most of my friends understand my schedule and how I try my possible best to meet-up whenever I can.

Sarah, Stella-Maris and I are such friends. With individually different schedules and locations it is quite a hassle to fix meet-ups as regularly as we’d want and so after many weeks of procrastinating we finally got down to having a cosy picnic at the park just because I’m very picky when it comes to food and I am yet to find a restaurant or even a fast-food joint that keeps me satisfied enough to make it a staple.

Hence, I offered to put my home cooking skills to good use, providing the food and snacks, Sarah who could literally be the goddess of “liquids to die for”, took care of the drinks and Stella-Maris settled for fruits.

Apart from the obvious fact that this is the best season for picnics, with parks adorned in fresh green and an overdose of scented flowers. This is also the best time to reach out to friends you don’t see as often as you’d like and catch-up on a budget.

So here is my guide for setting up an amazing picnic.

1.       LOCATION: this is the most important part of a picnic. Find a location that is suitable for all the parties involved. it could be by a beach, lake, or even a hillside. The aim here to find a place heavily influenced by nature’s calming presence hence ample serenity.

2.       FOOD: It is beyond necessary that you ensure that whatever would be served is something all your friends can eat. I would suggest they be split between foods, drinks and fruits when on a budget, or a case of everyone bringing their own picnic basket with the aforementioned categories indulged by everyone when you are able to splurge.
For foods, small chops or snacks like mini-burgers, samosa, suya and masa, avocado toast, shawarma, fried chicken etcetera are valid suggestions. They can be packed in various plastic lidded containers and carried in a picnic bag. Cutlery is optional depending on the food settled for and when decided upon, a Ziploc bag is necessary for putting them in after use. Dessert should perhaps be indulged b choice. Cream cakes, brownies, muffins are perfect examples of an ideal dessert.
For drinks, it is advisable to carry them in a cooler filed with ice to keep them cold for as long as possible.
For fruits, I’d advice sticking to the less messy ones like apples, bananas, strawberries, grapes, blackberries, oranges etcetera just because we wouldn’t want to be inviting ants to the party, now would we?

3.       OUTFIT: Comfort should be highly prioritized when deciding upon your choice of clothing. Colourful and billowy light-weight clothing is advised. Sunglasses and hats are a good way to keep the scorching sun away from you. And for your feet sandals are a perfect go-to.

4.       ACTIVITIES: Activities such as games like truth or dare, never have I ever etcetera add fun to a picnic, not to say that conversations do not suffice for some people either.

5.       WEATHER: This is a hugely important factor, summer consists of abrupt rains. So be sure to study the weather before you move ahead with plans or for professional opinion, listen to your local weather forecast.

Styling both my friends with my own clothes, seeing as we all possess different body sizes was easy for me in a way as I could be crowned queen supreme of over-sized clothing any day now.

After an afternoon filled with laughter, swatting away nature’s winged creations(It would help to bring along a pleasant smelling/odourless insecticide) and haphazard conversation thrown about without a care in the world, there was no doubt that three summer babes had made the right choice.

Cheers!
