SKIN DEEP

by - March 05, 2017

Our skin cells like our stomachs desire to be fed. And I admit, I’d much rather spend time feeding myself in any way possible than layering my face with colours and cakes.
This is where the boys say, “aww I knew she’d result to a gender bias post somehow”
                                       Cue ** shocked face** I wouldn’t dare!

As a lot of you might have noticed, I do not care much for make-up. I do not even own a concealer or foundation (and yes, I am a full blooded 21st century girl). Although some of my friends might argue that I have been genetically gifted with skin that runs smooth like a baby’s butt they neglect to mention that I am also cursed with eyes so heavily hooded underneath I look like Morty’s ceaselessly drunk grandpa perhaps in perpetuity. Eyes that make me look like I stayed up all night partying and downing bottles like a newly cultivated brand of hobos or swiping pages after pages of books like a nerdy over-ambitious sociopath. And the sad part is I wish either of these explanations were true just for the objective of a story and the satisfaction of choice.
Just for the need to add character to my face, you might find me with blood red lips or eyes as dark as Black Sabbath’s at daytime on a few occasions but I could barely wake up early enough to still have enough time to spare in front of the mirror after prioritizing breakfast for it to be a daily routine.

More often than not, I watch people layer their skins with so much temporary products it barely gets a chance to breathe. Usher in the pseudo flawless cult of the recent decade, where YouTube is flooded with make-over videos that celebratory facially transforms women to completely different women. Makeup is now seen as the newest form of deception and I am far from singularly blaming the extensive female population for this problem because in the end it is the joint effort of a society that celebrates impracticality and conditions a large number of women to judge their self-worth on how their beauty is defined by the en masse culture.

But who do we kid? Pimples are a pain to behold on our faces, acne scars follow cue and perhaps concealing those tired eyes after round-the-clock working is a quick fix. So why not dependently indulge make-up and make things a little easier? Because in the moment you might feel better but in the long run, you’re lying to yourself and perhaps cause your true skin real damage. So, it all boils down to which you want to invest in? the long or short run.

If you choose the long run, then you have to start feeding your skin both inside and out. Do not use all the money you need to eat healthy to buy make-up and skin products because there has to be an even distribution among these three. But most importantly learn to accept the things about yourself you cannot change because the strive for cosmetic perfection is bloody depressing and let us not ignore the substantial dent it causes on the money front.

This is where the boys say, “aww I knew she’d result to a gender bias post somehow” But how could I dare do that? Skin care should be important to both genders contrary to the existing market stereotype. Boys struggle with pimples and acne and skin problems quite equally so why leave them out in issues dealing with skin care. They may not indulge make-up to a substantial degree but skin care is far more important and knowing your skin type and how to care for it is necessary. For let us not kid ourselves, in a world so catastrophically vain, being good looking is an added accessory to every achievement you acquire.

And so, I shall not stretch on further before I dissolve into a never-ending pool of vanity, have some cookies everyone, cookies are never gender bias plus they cost less than my lipstick.

  7. The society has shaped some girls mind to believe make up is everything for you to look stunning which is wrong.
It hinders you from taking pride in your flaws and natural beauty because they don't see it that way.
I do say, if you having a skin problem like pimples that makes you hide in heavy make ups, while not work towards taking good care of your skin with natural products like charcoal, honey, fruits, eggs e.t.c to achieve that. And some girls do say it takes time for natural products to work effectively, but to me it still remains the best, rather than using chemicals that are harmful to the skin.So I don't advice to that.
